Swimming Pool Removal in Catawba County, NC

An in-ground pool that nobody swims in is a maintenance bill and a liability. Removing it is straightforward work with one decision that matters more than the rest.

Partial removal, or full

Partial fill-in

Top portion of the shell is broken out, the bottom is punched through for drainage, and the cavity is backfilled and compacted. Faster and cheaper. The catch: it generally has to be disclosed when you sell, and most jurisdictions will not permit a structure over that footprint afterward.

Full removal

Entire shell, plumbing and equipment removed, hole backfilled with engineered fill and compacted in lifts. Costs more. Leaves buildable ground and a cleaner disclosure.

If there is any chance you will build on or near that footprint later — addition, garage, shop — do the full removal. Retrofitting it after the fact means digging everything back out.

Drainage is the part people forget

A pool cavity is a hole that wants to hold water. If it is not drained through the base and backfilled properly, you get a slow-settling wet spot in the yard for years. Compaction in lifts is not an upsell, it is the job.

What goes with it

  • Shell, concrete or fibreglass
  • Decking and coping
  • Plumbing, skimmers and returns
  • Pump, filter and heater
  • Fencing, if you want it gone

Permits

Pool removal generally requires a permit and an inspection of the fill. Skipping it creates a problem at resale that is far more expensive than the permit fee.
